Removals to Spain
Removals to Spain
UK to Spain removals run end-to-end by MTC International. Coastal property moves to the Costa Blanca, Costa del Sol and Costa Brava; mainland city relocations to Madrid, Barcelona and Valencia. Door-to-door delivery, customs paperwork handled in-house, one MTC team from collection to delivery.
UK to Spain — how the route runs
Channel routing, French transit, Spanish entry via the Pyrenees
Spain is one of MTC’s highest-volume European routes. Crossing options are Eurotunnel or Dover-Calais ferry, then continental drive through France entering Spain at one of three points: the Atlantic-side Hendaye/Irún crossing for Northern Spain and central destinations; La Jonquera on the Mediterranean side for Catalonia and Eastern Spain; or, for Southern Spain, continuing through France into the Pyrenees and direct to the Costa del Sol.
Which entry point we use depends on the destination region — Catalonia and Valencia run via La Jonquera, Madrid and Northern Spain via Hendaye/Irún, Andalusia via the Mediterranean route. Same vetted MTC crew runs the whole move; no Spanish-side agent handover.
Where in Spain we deliver to
UK to Spain destinations fall into a few well-defined categories. Coastal property moves (the largest single category), mainland city moves, and steadily increasing UK-resident moves to Northern Spain and the Atlantic coast.
- Costa del Sol — Marbella, Estepona, Fuengirola, Mijas, Nerja — by some distance the most active Spanish destination region. UK retirees and remote workers moving to coastal apartments and villas. Andalusia-routed via Mediterranean crossing.
- Costa Blanca — Alicante, Benidorm, Torrevieja, Calpe, Jávea, Dénia — Eastern Spain coastal property moves, often into apartments in urbanisations and villa addresses inland. Valencia-region routing via La Jonquera.
- Costa Brava — Lloret de Mar, Tossa, Begur, Cadaqués — Catalan coastal addresses, often into narrow-access village properties on the rocky stretch north of Barcelona.
- Madrid and central Spain — city-centre apartment moves with parking permit logistics; suburban moves to Pozuelo, Las Rozas, and the Madrid commuter belt. Madrid is the most common Spanish business relocation destination.
- Barcelona and Catalonia — Eixample apartment moves with narrow-access logistics; Pedralbes and Sant Cugat suburban; coastal Sitges destinations.
- Valencia and the Mediterranean coast — city moves into central Valencia and L’Eixample; coastal property south of Valencia toward Cullera and Gandía.
- Asturias, Cantabria, Galicia and the Atlantic coast — steadily increasing UK-resident property moves to Northern Spain. Different climate, different property type, different operating logistics — often into rural inland addresses rather than coast.
- Balearics — Mallorca, Menorca, Ibiza — island destinations by arrangement. Ferry routing from Barcelona or Valencia; quoted per move with explicit timing and access notes at survey.
UK pickups for Spain routes
Spain routes run from across the UK with high frequency: London and Greater London, Birmingham and the Midlands, Bristol and the South-West, Manchester and Leeds for Northern pickups, Brighton and the South Coast, Norwich and East Anglia, and Scottish collections from Edinburgh and Glasgow. Spain is the single largest international destination from the UK for personal-effects removals, and routes run regularly.
Customs paperwork for UK to Spain moves
Spanish customs require an import declaration on personal effects entering the country, supporting documentation around the move’s purpose (permanent move vs second-home setup), and the Spanish transfer-of-residence equivalent where the move is permanent. MTC handles the customs declaration paperwork in-house.
- Export and import declarations handled by our customs desk.
- EORI number guidance at survey.
- Transfer-of-residence (cambio de residencia) documentation for permanent Spanish residency moves — this requires Padrón registration and NIE proof, which you arrange independently before the move.
- Itemised inventory in the format the Spanish customs authority expects.
- High-value item declarations — art, jewellery, watches, instruments — at survey.
What tends to come up on UK to Spain moves
- Spanish completion timing slipping — Spanish notary completions can slip materially. Storage on either side is built into the quote where the property isn’t locked.
- Urbanisation gate access — Costa Blanca and Costa del Sol urbanisations often require pre-arranged delivery slots and gate codes; survey captures the destination admin.
- Furniture for the climate — heavy UK upholstered furniture often doesn’t suit Mediterranean climate; many movers downsize what they bring. The survey accommodates final list changes up to a fortnight before pickup.
- Air conditioning, white goods, and Spanish-spec appliances — UK appliances often don’t fit Spanish kitchen layouts and the electrical socket configurations differ. We deliver what you brief; we don’t advise on what you should buy.
- Two-trip moves — common when downsizing from a UK house to a Spanish apartment with a second-home phase in between. The quote can accommodate phased delivery if needed.
- Pets, vehicles, and boats — out of scope. Use a specialist relocator for those.
